Why you will love these air fryer boneless ribs
It is an easy recipe to prepare made with only 4 ingredients!
These boneless pork ribs are so juicy! Spare ribs are a fatty cut of pork, resulting in juicy ribs with delicious flavor.
Full of umami flavor, these tender ribs are super tasty and always a family favorite.
Air frying is a quick & easy way to cook ribs, it requires minimal effort minimal cleanup, and a shorter time than cooking in the oven.
Ingredients
All you need to make these air fryer pork ribs are four simple ingredients:
- Boneless pork ribs: in Australia, these are also called spare ribs. Remove the skin and cut each rib into 3 pieces.
- Tamari - or soy sauce (if you can tolerate gluten)
- Miso paste - adding miso paste is optional, but it adds a delicious touch and packs a punch of umami taste.
- Honey - can also be substituted for maple syrup, sugar of choice, or erythritol if you'd like to go sugar-free.
See recipe card for quantities.
Substitutions and variations
Add a spicy kick: by adding some sriracha or chili powder to the sauce.
Use different types of ribs: country-style pork ribs, traditional ribs, or short ribs will work well too. Adjust the cooking time to suit the thickness of the ribs. Thicker ribs will take longer, thinner ribs will cook quicker.
You can use your favorite BBQ sauce instead of the miso-tamari sauce.
Go for a dry rub instead of sauce: a combination of garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper would work fantastic.
How to cook boneless ribs in an air fryer
The cooking process to make these pork ribs requires minimal effort and it's very easy to follow.
Start by preparing the miso-tamari sauce: combine the tamari, miso paste, honey, and a bit of water in a small pot on medium-low heat. Stir well to combine, and let it cook for a few minutes. Let it cool down before adding to the ribs.
Combine the ribs with the sauce: add all the rib pieces to a bowl, pour the miso-tamari sauce over, and combine well using a spoon/fork. Make sure all the sides of the ribs are covered in the sauce. If you have time, let them marinate for a few hours, if you don't, that's completely fine too! Go to the next step.
Cook the ribs: place ribs in the bottom of the air fryer basket in a single layer, leaving enough space in between. Cook at 180 C / 360 degrees F for 18-20 minutes, flipping halfway through. The cooking time will depend on the thickness of the ribs.
Note! If you have a smaller air fryer you might need to cook these ribs in batches.
What to serve with air fryer spare ribs
My favorite side dishes to serve with these juicy ribs are a bit of sushi rice or steamed rice, some green veggies, like steamed green beans, Asian-style green beans, or cauliflower mash or potato mash.
If you want a hearty side dish, you can never go wrong with some roasted potatoes and butternut squash.
