    Easy beef bolognese sauce

When I was a kid a plate of beef bolognese was my absolute favourite. Whether it was in a lasagna or a big bowl of spaghetti, it was my go-to dish when we would go to an Italian restaurant, and one of my mum's most loved dishes.

As an adult I still adore this dish, I feel it's one of those basics that we all need in our recipes repertoire! Zucchini noodles are my current favourite way to enjoy this yummy sauce! What is yours?

TIPS TO MAKE THE BEST BEEF BOLOGNESE SAUCE

Use grass fed minced beef! Not only you will be contributing to more responsible farming practices and hence helping the environment, you will feel the taste of happy animals 😊

Use organic canned tomatoes, and let the tomato sauce cook for 30 minutes! It can be tempting to cut down the time here, but the wait is worth it, as the water evaporates, and the flavours & consistency develop of the sauce develop during this time.

If you want to cut down in time, use a quality pre-made tomato sauce. If you opt for this option keep an eye out for these few things: low sugar content, short ingredients list and no additives.

    Description

This easy beef bolognese sauce is incredibly tasty, rich, and super easy to make following some simple steps. Ideal for pasta, zucchini noodles or stuffed eggplant! Gluten-free & dairy-free.

    Ingredients

    Scale

    1 onion finely diced

    4 garlic cloves finely diced

    2 carrots finely diced

    5 mushrooms diced

500 grams of grass fed minced beef with salt and pepper to taste

2 cans of organic whole peeled tomatoes

    1 teaspoon of italian herbs

    Salt to taste

    Instructions

    1. Add a generous drizzle of olive oil to a pan on medium heat. Once the oil is hot add the onion and garlic, and salt to taste. Stir for approximately 5 minutes until the onion is transparent and soft. Add the carrots and a pinch of salt and stir for another 5 minutes, until the carrot is soft. Increase the fire to high and add the mushrooms. Cook for 3 minutes or until the mushrooms are cooked.
    2. Make a space in the middle of the pan and add the minced beef. With the help of a timber spoon, break apart the minced beef and combine with the rest of ingredients. Cook for approximately 5 minutes, until all the meat is brown.
    3. Add the tomatoes and herbs, and mix to combine with all the ingredients. Lower the fire to low and cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. If you have more time, cook for longer for a deeper flavour! Taste the sauce and add more salt if needed.
    4. Serve with your favourite pasta, zucchini noodles or stuffed eggplant!

    Notes

    • If you're short in time you can use a pre-made tomato sauce and let it simmer for 10 minutes only. Look out for low sugar content and short ingredients list without additives.
